Description: Learn to add and adjust modifiers when building an order in Shift4 Venue, including how to use the Special Instructions option to send custom notes to the kitchen.
When adding items to an order, you have additional options to send as notes to the kitchen with the order.
Select the item being requested. Once the item detail window opens, modifiers may be available. Not all menu items have modifiers.
Note: Contact your suites manager if you need clarification on which items can be modified.
In the example above, five modifiers are available, including a Special Instructions section.
Modifiers appear on tickets in the kitchen and pantries.
Special Instructions
The Special Instructions option allows you to send specialty notes to the kitchen that are not available as standard modifiers. Common uses include allergy information, preparation preferences, or other guest-specific requests.
When you select Special Instructions, a keyboard and text entry screen appear. Enter the desired notes.
Add the Item to the Check
- Select the requested modifiers.
- Select Done to add the item to the check.
After the page refreshes, the item appears on the left side of the screen, confirming it was added to the check. The selected modifiers also display beneath the item.
Where Modifiers Display
Once the order has been processed, modifier notes appear only on the Order Details page.
Note: Modifiers do not appear on any customer-facing screens during the Pay Now workflow, and they do not print on the customer's receipt.
