This guide will cover the out-of-the-box installation of the PAX A35 Card Reader. If you have already completed these steps and need to know what Android Settings to configure or how to assign the A35 to the Kiosk in Canopy 2.0, then please refer to the guides below,

⚠️ Before You Begin

To ensure a smooth setup, please make sure the following items are completed:

🔌 Network Whitelisting

All required ports and hardware endpoints must be allowed on your network.

➡️ View the Network Whitelist Guide

🌐 Network Requirements

Confirm that your setup meets the minimum network standards.

➡️ Review Network Requirements

📡 Static IP Addressing
Each A35 card reader needs a statically reserved IP address that is outside your DHCP range.

🚫 If a reader is assigned a DHCP IP address instead, there's a risk of IP conflicts with other devices. This can cause your kiosk to lose connection with the card reader, making it unusable for payments.

⚠️ Before You Begin

🛠️Tools

  • You will need to have a PH2(Phillips 2) Screwdriver to open the Elo Kiosk and install your card reader.

  • Depending on the type of Kiosk Mount, you may need the Kiosk Keys to open up the stand to complete the installation.

🚀 Before You Begin: Complete First-Time Setup

We recommend completing the Elo Kiosk | First Startup Guide (along with the follow-up guides) before continuing with the A35 setup.

Assuming the above is completed, proceed with the A35 Setup below,

🆔 Identifying Your Elo Serial Number

You’ll need your Elo Kiosk’s serial number to link the device correctly in Canopy 2.0 during the A35 setup.

🔍 How to Find It:

  1. On the back of your Elo tablet, press the Power and Home buttons at the same time to open the Elo Control Panel.

  1. You should immediately see the EloView screen, which will display the device serial number in the center.

✍️ Write this down — you’ll need it later when assigning a static IP address in Canopy 2.0.

  1. If you’re running an older version of EloView, you may be prompted to immediately enter a password.

    • Try your venue's ZIP Code first.

    • If that doesn’t work, try: 1elo or elo1.

🔐 Trouble logging in?

If none of those passwords work, no problem — tap outside the password box to minimize the keyboard. This will allow you to view and record the serial number without logging in.

4. Once you’ve successfully entered the password, you’ll see the full Elo Kiosk serial number.

✍️ Write this down — you’ll need it later when assigning a static IP address in Canopy 2.0.

📦 Unboxing Your PAX A35 Card Reader

Let’s take a look at what’s inside the box and what you’ll need to get your PAX A35 Card Reader up and running. We’ve also included the optional PAX C302 Power/LAN Adapter, which can be helpful if you’re short on Ethernet ports at your kiosk location.

📋 What's Included in the Box?

📦 PAX A35 Card Reader Kit

PAX A35 Card Reader 1 Y
PAX A35 Back Cover Plate w/ Screws 1 Y
USB A Power Adapter 1 Y
USB A to USB C Power Cable 1 Y(Only if NOT using the PAX C302 Adapter)
LAN/Power Cable Bundle 1 Y(Only if NOT using the PAX C302 Adapter)

📦 PAX C302 Adapter Kit (Optional)

ITEM: QTY: REQUIRED Y/N?
PAX C302 Power/LAN Hub 1 Y(Only if you decide to use the PAX C302 Adapter)
USB A to Power Cable 1 Y(Only if you decide to use the PAX C302 Adapter)
Split USB A to Power Cable 1 N(Do not Discard)

💡 When Do You Need the C302 Adapter?

The PAX C302 Adapter is useful if your kiosk location doesn’t have two available Ethernet ports.

You need:

  • 1 port for your Elo Kiosk
  • 1 port for the A35 Card Reader

If you’re limited to just one Ethernet drop, the C302 acts as an unmanaged switch, letting you:

  • Plug Ethernet into the C302
  • Use one output for the Kiosk
  • Power and network the A35 via USB-C from the C302 Hub

🔌 Installing the PAX A35 Without the C302 Hub

If you're not using the optional PAX C302 Adapter, no worries — this guide will walk you through how to connect power and Ethernet to your A35 Card Reader using the included LAN/Power Cable Bundle.

✅ What You’ll Need:

  • Your PAX A35 Card Reader
  • The included LAN/Power Cable Bundle
  • The included USB A Power Adapter
  • The included USB A to USB C Power Cable
  • The included PAX A35 Back Cover Plate w/ Screws
  • A standard Ethernet cable
  • A nearby power source

🛠️ Getting Started

  1. Plug the USB-A Power Adapter into a power source.

  2. Connect the USB-A to USB-C Power Cable to the adapter, then plug the USB-C end into the LAN/Power Cable Bundle.

  3. Plug your Ethernet cable into an available LAN port, then connect the other end to the red LAN port on the LAN/Power Cable Bundle.

  4. Finally, take the long USB power cable from the LAN/Power Cable Bundle and plug it into the back of the A35 Card Reader.

🔌 These two connections — power and Ethernet — are all you need to get the A35 online without the C302 hub.

🧩 If your A35 Card Reader is already in its final position, go ahead and attach the PAX A35 Back Cover Plate using the provided screws, and tighten them securely.

⚠️ Important Tip:

Make sure to leave enough slack in the cables so they can easily run through your Elo Kiosk and reach the mounting area for your A35.

  • Avoid pulling cables too tightly — give them room for adjustments.

  • Consider where the A35 will be installed and plan your cable routing accordingly.

📷 Coming Up Next: Check the diagram below to see which cables from the bundle are used and which ones you can ignore — some are included for other setups and aren’t needed here.

🟢 Cables circled in green are the ones referenced above and should be used during the installation process.

Cables crossed out in red are not needed for this setup. Feel free to separate them from the main bundle to help clean up and organize your cables.

  2. Then, take the USB-A to Power Cable, plug one end into the adapter, and the other into the Power Port on the C302 Hub.

  3. Take Ethernet Cable #1 and plug it into an available LAN port on your network. Connect the other end to one of the LAN ports on the C302 Hub.

  4. Now, take Ethernet Cable #2 and plug it into the second LAN port on the hub. Connect the other end of that cable to the LAN port on your Elo Kiosk.

  5. Finally, take the long USB power cable from the C302 Hub and plug it into the USB-C port on the back of the PAX A35 Card Reader.

🧩 If your A35 Card Reader is already in its final position, go ahead and attach the PAX A35 Back Cover Plate using the provided screws, and tighten them securely.
