Summary: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds a second layer of security to your Canopy login. Starting September 29, 2025, all Canopy users will be required to enter a one-time code in addition to their password.

What to Expect

To log in after MFA is enabled:

  1. Enter your email address and password as usual.
  2. Check your email for a one-time, six-digit verification code.
  3. Enter the code on the verification screen to complete login.

Key Details

  • Verification codes will expire after 15 minutes.
  • You can select "Resend Code" if needed.
  • If you don’t see the email, check your spam or junk folder.
  • Codes will be sent from noreply@venuenext.com.
  • You’ll have three attempts to enter the correct code.
  • After three failed attempts, your account will be temporarily locked for 10 minutes.

Important: For your protection, Shift4 Venue Support agents cannot view your codes or unlock a temporarily locked account.

Use an Authenticator App for Multi-Factor Authentication

Instead of receiving your multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification code by email, you can use an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator on your mobile device.

Authenticator apps generate a temporary verification code directly on your phone. This can be especially useful if email verification codes are delayed or you do not have immediate access to your email.

After you set up an authenticator app, you can still choose to receive a verification code by email when signing in.

Before you begin

You will need:

  • An iPhone or Android phone
  • Access to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  • Your Shift4 Venue username and password
  • Google Authenticator installed on your phone

Install Google Authenticator on an iPhone

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  2. Search for Google Authenticator.
  3. Select Google Authenticator published by Google.
  4. Tap Get and follow the prompts to install the app.
  5. Open Google Authenticator after installation.

Install Google Authenticator on an Android phone

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
  2. Search for Google Authenticator.
  3. Select Google Authenticator published by Google LLC.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Open Google Authenticator after installation.

Set up Google Authenticator with Shift4 Venue

  1. Sign in to Shift4 Venue using your username and password.
  2. When prompted to select a multi-factor authentication method, select the option to use an Authenticator App.
  3. Shift4 Venue will display a QR code on the screen.
  4. Open Google Authenticator on your phone.
  5. In Google Authenticator, tap Add a code or the + button.
  6. Select Scan a QR code.
  7. Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code displayed by Shift4 Venue.
  8. Google Authenticator will add your Shift4 Venue account and begin displaying a six-digit verification code.
  9. Return to Shift4 Venue and enter the verification code currently displayed in Google Authenticator.
  10. Complete the verification to finish signing in.

Important: Authenticator codes change automatically after a short period of time. If a code expires before you enter it, use the new code displayed in the app.

Sign in using Google Authenticator

After Google Authenticator has been configured:

  1. Sign in to Shift4 Venue using your username and password.
  2. When prompted for MFA, choose the Authenticator App option.
  3. Open Google Authenticator on your phone.
  4. Locate the verification code for your Shift4 Venue account.
  5. Enter the current code in Shift4 Venue.
  6. Continue signing in.

You do not need an email message to receive the code. Google Authenticator generates the verification code directly on your device.

Use email instead

Setting up an authenticator app does not prevent you from using email verification.

When Shift4 Venue asks you to complete MFA, you can choose the available email verification option instead and have a verification code sent to your email address.

If you get a new phone

Before replacing or resetting your current phone, transfer or back up your Google Authenticator accounts according to Google's instructions.

If you still have access to your old phone, Google Authenticator can transfer an account to a new device using a QR code:

  1. Open Google Authenticator on your old phone.
  2. Select the Shift4 Venue account you want to transfer.
  3. Choose the option to transfer, share, or export the account.
  4. Google Authenticator will display a QR code.
  5. Open Google Authenticator on your new phone.
  6. Select Add a code.
  7. Select Scan a QR code.
  8. Scan the QR code displayed on your old phone.

After confirming that your Shift4 Venue verification codes are available on the new phone, you can continue using the new device for MFA.

If you no longer have access to your previous authenticator configuration and cannot complete MFA using another available method, contact your Shift4 Venue administrator or Shift4 Support for assistance.
