📖 Overview
This guide walks through verifying all necessary apps on your PAX L1400 Workstation and A3700 Card Reader, and covers what to expect when launching the Shift4 Venue App for the first time.
🔎 Pre-Check: Gold Standard Versions
Before beginning, confirm with your Account Manager or 📧 venuesupport@shift4.com the current Gold Standard versions for:
- L1400 and A3700 Firmware
- BroadPOS Lite
- BroadPOS Manager
- Shift4 Venue App
✅ This ensures your devices are on the correct versions for successful payment processing.
📦 Step 1: Verify App Status and Firmware in PAXStore
These steps must be completed on both the L1400 and A3700:
- Open the PAXStore App from the Android home screen.

Tap the ☰ hamburger menu in the top left.

📋 Note the device serial number at the top (handy for support).
- Select Firmware Update to view:
- Your current firmware version (top of screen)
- Pending updates via "Check Update" (bottom of screen)
📱 Step 2: Check Installed Apps & Versions
Ensure the required apps are installed and match the expected version:
- Press back twice to return to the PAX home screen.

Tap the My Apps tab in the center.
- Under the Purchased section, verify that the following apps are installed:
✅ L1400 Apps:
- Shift4 Venue App (usually named after your venue)
- BroadPOS Manager
- BroadPOS Lite Shift4
✅ A3700 Apps:
- Shift4 Venue App (usually named after your venue)
- BroadPOS Manager
- BroadPOS Lite Shift4
- Tap each app to view the installed version.

🚀 Step 3: First App Launch & Setup
Follow these steps to successfully launch the app for the first time:
🖥️ L1400:
- Open the Shift4 Venue App from the home screen or "Purchased" list.
- A QR Code will appear. Scan it to register the hardware (see the [Hardware Registration Guide]).
- Approve all permission prompts.
💳 A3700:
- Launch the Shift4 Venue App.
- Set it as the Default Home App when prompted.
- Approve all permission prompts.
✅ Once complete, select a menu on the L1400 and choose Customer Facing Display POS to ensure syncing and functionality with the A3700 card reader.
