This article will guide you through creating production lines so that you can enable your Print Controllers to route specific items to your Chit Printers.
If you have already created your Production Line(s) and need to make Routing Groups, then please follow this guide.
Note: Before creating Production Lines you should have your Chit Printers already created in Canopy 2.0 - Devices. You may follow this guide to create your printers. If you need further assistance with creating printers please contact venuesupport@shift4.com or review the Cloud Chit Printing guide.
Explanation of Production Lines:
-
Production Lines are used to create separation between your different types of printers. When printers are grouped under a production line then that line can be quickly turned off to avoid Chits being printed to a closed location such as a bar or kitchen. Here are some examples,
- You may have a Hot Line Chit(where hot foods are prepared and held) or a Cold Line Chit(where cold foods are prepared and held.)
- In this configuration, you may have two separate Production Lines one for your Hot Line that contains your hot line chit printer(s) specific to their area. Then one Cold Line that contains your cold line chit printer(s) specific to their area.
- Since your lines are separated you can at any time turn one Production Line off to prevent orders from being sent to those specific Chit Printers, but if your printers are all grouped under one Production Line and you need to be able to disable a specific chit printer then you will not be able to without removing that printer from your Production Line.
- In this configuration, you may have two separate Production Lines one for your Hot Line that contains your hot line chit printer(s) specific to their area. Then one Cold Line that contains your cold line chit printer(s) specific to their area.
- You may have a Hot Line Chit(where hot foods are prepared and held) or a Cold Line Chit(where cold foods are prepared and held.)
- Important Note: Separating your printers for a Revenue Center is not required, you can group all of your printers under one Production Line and then make your Routing Groups accordingly. You will just lose the ability to turn off a given print line such as a hot/cold device if that feature is required.
Note: If you’re using Xpedite with Production Lines then you cannot have the printer(s) linked directly to the tablet configuration.
Setting up Production Lines:
- Navigate to your Ecosystem and Organization in Canopy Classic. You can also access Canopy Classic by visiting your instance-menu.ordernext.com in Canopy 2.0. Then select the dropdown under your Venue Name by the upper left-hand corner and select Canopy Classic.
- Once in Classic, navigate to F&B → Xpedite Devices.
- From here select Production Lines at the top of the page.
- Next, select ‘(+) Add Production Line’ at the top right of the page.
- Start by naming your Production Line and selecting the Location(RVC/Menu) that this production line will pertain to.
- Next, select ‘(+) Add Production Line’ at the top right of the page.
- Select ‘Create’ this will redirect you to the full configuration of the Production Line. Here you will have the following edit options,
-
Name(Internal): You can edit the name of the production line at any time during creation and after saving.
-
Availability: This should be set to the ON position so that your print line is available and your Chits print or to the OFF position if the line should remain unavailable and no Chits should print.
-
Location: This cannot be changed after you initially entered the location from the first pop-up box and thereafter. If you have to change the location you will need to delete the production line and recreate it.
-
Assigned Printers: In this field search for your printer(s) to add to the production line.
- Once a printer is added it will populate in the Assigned Printers field.
-
Note: Modifying the amount of Chit Copies will not print more Chits. If you’re looking for the feature to be enabled then please contact venuesupport@shift4.com.
- Once a printer is added it will populate in the Assigned Printers field.
- When all your changes have been completed, select ‘Create’ at the top right of the page. This concludes the creation of your first Production Line. To learn how to create Routing Groups please follow this guide.
