Description: This guide explains how to configure marketplace experiences in Canopy, including events, merchants, categories, global items, and exclusivity settings. Events must be set up in Canopy before experiences can be sold.
Configure Events in Shift4 Venue
To enable an experience for sale, the related event must be configured in Canopy > Events > Events.
Required fields:
- Event Name
- Event Date, Time, and Timezone
- Custom Attribute: Add a custom attribute with label marketplace and value true to enable the event in the marketplace.
Optional (for multi-instance support):
- Custom Attribute: Add a label instance with a value matching the OrderNext instance (e.g.,
utahjazz).- Experiences linked to this event will only appear on the matching instance (e.g.,
example1.ordernext.com). - If no instance is defined, experiences will display on all instances.

Configure Merchants in Shift4 Venue
Go to Canopy > Marketplace > Merchants.
As of September 2021, merchants are not used for payment processing with Shift4 i4Go. However, you must still provide a value (any string) in the merchant field to save an experience.
If unsure, contact Shift4 Venue Support.
Configure Categories in Shift4 Venue
Go to Canopy > Marketplace > Categories.
Experiences must belong to at least one category to be visible in the app.
Required fields:
- Category Name
- Icon (used as a tout image in SDK & Web)
- Recommended dimensions: 375 x 180
- Merchant Token (as of September 2021, this is the i4Go merchant token used for purchases in this category)
Note: Ignore toggles for Display on Homepage, Display on Marketplace Homepage, and Display in Client.
Create a Global Item in Shift4 Venue
Go to Canopy > Marketplace > Global Items > Create Global Item.
This defines the experience details. Price and inventory can be customized per event after creation.
Required fields:
- Item Type: Select Venue Experience
- Redemption Type: Choose based on how the experience is fulfilled (see Redemption Types section)
- Name, Description, Categories
- Item Attributes: Define whether the experience applies to a single event or all events
- Item Availability and Purchase Limits
- Event (only for single-event items)
- Inventory, Expiration, Redemption Start
- Transferable, Refundable
- Sale Attributes: Group, Price, Sale Start and End Times
- Images:
- Countdown Timer Card Image
- Detail Image (750 x 492)
- Instruction Text (optional)
Redemption Types
- No Scan: No redemption required
- Countdown Timer: Timer starts when user taps redeem
- Requires countdown duration (in seconds)
- QR/Barcode:
- Upload codes in Marketplace > Global Items > [Experience] > View QR/Bar Codes
- Use Create or Bulk Upload to add values
Note: Single Scan and Unlimited Scan are not supported by SDK or Web.
Metadata Types
Used to collect purchaser information needed to fulfill the experience:
- Text String: Free text field (e.g., Enter your message)
- Seat Picker: Free text fields for Section/Row/Seat
- Age: Date input for birthday; can include age restrictions
Configure Exclusivity
Controls who can purchase experiences:
- All: Default; available to all users
- Preferred Card Holder: Requires preferred card BIN list (contact support)
- Geo-exclusive: Requires latitude, longitude, and radius in meters
- Tiered Exclusive: Based on pre-configured tiers
To hide exclusive experiences from non-eligible users:
- Add metadata: Visible by Affiliation = true
- If not added or set to false, experience remains visible to all but only purchasable by eligible users.
Modify Price and Inventory per Event
Go to Canopy > Marketplace > Global Items > [Experience]. Select an event to modify:
- Price
- Inventory
- Item and Sale Attributes
Add Experiences to New Events
If an event is added after the global item is created:
- Go to Marketplace > Global Items > [Experience]
- Click Show Items by Event
- Select Create Item next to the new event
- Configure the item and sale attributes
