π Overview
This guide walks you through the PAX Q25 Card Reader setup process, including:
- Accessing terminal-level menus
- Network whitelisting requirements
- Navigating key system settings
- Resolving common error messages
β οΈ This device must be properly whitelisted and configured on your network before it can download firmware and updates.
π Network Whitelisting Requirements
At minimum, whitelist the following domains and IPs to ensure a successful connection to PAXStore services:

π Tip: Reference the full Shift4 Network Whitelist to ensure all communication paths are open.
Additionally:
- The IP assigned to the Q25 should be DHCP Reserved or Static outside the DHCP range.
π Terminal Menu Access
How to Access the Function Menu:
- From the idle screen, press the Menu button.
- Enter the System Password (default is todayβs date in MM/DD/YYYY format).
- If not accepted, try yesterday's or tomorrow's date.
- If still rejected, use admin override: 08485488
- If the device locks from too many incorrect attempts, reboot by holding the red X button.

βοΈ Key Menus to Access
System Settings > App Management
Use this menu to manually pull PAXStore updates to the device.
To perform an App Update:
- Menu > Enter password
- Press Down > 1 System Settings
- Press Down > 2 App Management
- Enter password again
- Press 2 App Update
Troubleshooting:
- "Connect Error": Device cannot reach PAXStore β verify network whitelist + connection.
- "Transaction remains in database": Clear transactions under System Settings > Database.
System Settings > Database
Use only if necessary to resolve errors or failing payments. If you have concerns about using this feature, then please contact support.Β
π Clear Database
- Menu > Enter password
- 1 System Settings > 4 Database
- Enter password again
- Press 1 Clear Database > Confirm
- Choose 1 (All) to clear all EDC types
β Clear Reversal
- Clears reversals only
- Follow same steps above, but choose 2 instead of 1
π΄ Clear Offline
- Clears offline transactions
- Follow same steps, but choose 4
β οΈ Use these options only when necessary to resolve transaction-related errors.
Comm Settings > LAN Parameters
This section configures the deviceβs LAN connection.
LAN Type (DHCP vs Static)
- Menu > Enter password
- 2 Comm Settings > 4 LAN Parameters
- Press 1 LAN Type
- Choose:
- 1 DHCP (auto-configures IP)
- 2 Static (manual IP)
IP Address
- Only visible if LAN Type = Static
- Format: Enter using leading zeros (e.g., 10.1.120.2 = 010.001.120.002)
Subnet Mask / Gateway / DNS IP / DNS IP 2
- Follow same path as IP Address:
- 2 IP Address
- 3 Subnet Mask
- 4 Gateway
- DNS IP: Press Down > 1
- DNS IP 2: Press Down > 3
Use the Clear key to backspace, Cancel to erase, Enter to confirm.
Ping Test
Use to check network connectivity:
- Menu > Password > Comm Settings > LAN Parameters
- Press Down > 4 Ping
- Enter a domain (default: www.google.com)
π To enter letters, press the number key and tap Alpha until the letter appears (e.g., to type Y, press 9, then Alpha x3).
