Description: Learn to create, configure, and verify Custom Tenders in Canopy 2.0, including setting display names, maximum amounts, and revenue center assignments.

Create a Custom Tender

Custom Tenders allow venues to offer special payment types at checkout. These options appear under Other on the point-of-sale (POS) during checkout and can include types such as:

  • House accounts
  • Coupons
  • Employee meals
  • Promotional credits
  1. In Canopy 2.0, select Settings, then select Custom Tenders.
  2. Select the blue plus button in the top-right corner.
  3. Complete the Custom Tender fields using the table below as a reference.
FieldDescription
Display NameThe name that appears on the POS, receipts, and reports (for example, Employee Meal Credit).

Require Manager PINToggle on if a manager PIN is required to use this tender.
  1. Select Save to create the tender.

Important: Custom Tenders cannot be renamed or deleted once created, as they are retained for reporting purposes.

Verify the Custom Tender on the POS

After creating a Custom Tender, verify it is working correctly on the POS. You can test it using either the browser-based POS or a physical POS device.

Browser POS (Web)

  1. Navigate to your instance URL (for example, yourinstance-pos.ordernext.com).
  2. Log in with your PIN. You may need to select a menu and printer.
  3. Add a few items to the cart.
  4. Select Other to view available payment options.

Physical POS Device

  1. Log in to a POS terminal using your PIN.
  2. Add a few items to the cart.
  3. Select Other to view available payment options.

Verification Scenarios

Custom Tender assigned to a revenue center:

  • The tender appears in the list of Other payment options.
  • The tender can be used to close the order fully or partially, depending on the maximum amount configured.

Custom Tender not assigned to a revenue center:

  • The tender does not appear in the payment options.

Best Practices

  • Use descriptive names such as Vendor Credit or Promo Ticket.
  • Test tenders immediately after creation.
  • Always verify revenue center assignments for accuracy before going live.
