Description: Learn to configure charges and fees in Shift4 Venue, including non-taxable service charges, taxable service charges, and delivery fees that automatically apply to selected revenue centers or menus.


Charge and Fee Types

Warning: Charges and fees are automatically applied to orders and cannot be removed by staff during checkout.

When creating a charge or fee, select one of the following types.

Non-Taxable Service Charge

Applies a flat amount or percentage to every check. Commonly used for service or facility fees.

Taxable Service Charge

Applies a flat amount or percentage to every check in addition to the Tax Group you select. Commonly used for service or facility fees.

Delivery Fee

Used for mobile and table delivery flows. Configure as a flat amount or percentage.

Create a Charge or Fee

  1. Navigate to your Shift4 Venue instance URL.
  2. Select the Settings app from the bottom-left sidebar.

    Note: If the page refreshes, select the app again to reveal the dropdown menu.

  3. Select Charges & Fees.
  4. Select the Add button in the top right.

Configuration Fields

In the Add Charge or Fee menu, complete the following fields.

  • Name: Enter the name guests and cashiers will see on receipts and the point of sale (POS).
  • Type: Select Non-Taxable Service ChargeDelivery Fee, or Taxable Service Charge.

    Note: When selecting a Taxable Service Charge, you will be prompted to select the applicable Tax Group.

  • Percentage: (Optional) Enter a percentage charge.
  • Flat Amount: (Optional) Enter a dollar amount.
  • Menus: Select the revenue centers or menus this fee applies to.

Select Save when finished.

Final Steps

Once saved, the charge or fee takes effect immediately. To complete setup, refresh and sync network data on all POS workstations where you applied the charge or fee.

The charge or fee is now active.
