Modifiers and Their Role
Modifiers are item customizations within Canopy 2.0. They allow managers to configure adjustments to food and beverage items, ensuring that each order meets the unique preferences of their customers.
Examples of Modifiers:
- No Cheese
- No Tomato
- Add Cheese
- Add Tomato
Modifier Groups: Organizing Customization
Modifier Groups allows managers to categorize Modifiers effectively. Imagine them as folders, neatly organizing your customization options. This not only simplifies the management of your menus but also enhances the customer ordering experience by presenting choices in an intuitive and structured manner.
Examples of Modifier Groups:
- Burger Modifications
- Coffee Sweetener Flavor
- Number of Creamers
- Cocktail Mixers
Global Items and Modifiers
Global items are considered your base items and are able to be modified by a Modifier Group containing Modifiers. This flexibility enables managers to use existing items and expand their menu offerings effortlessly. Whether it's turning a standard drink into a customizable cocktail or a basic burger into a gourmet delight, Modifier Groups and Modifiers make it possible.
Examples of Global Items (base items):
- Cheeseburger
- Cold Brew
- Bavarian Pretzel
- Soft-Serve Ice Cream
Defining Behavior: Minimum and Maximum Inputs
Modifiers and Modifier Groups bring versatility to your menu by allowing you to define their behavior. With options such as radio buttons, checkboxes, quantity selectors, required, or optional you have the power to set the rules. Specify the minimum and maximum inputs for each Modifier or Modifier Group, giving you fine-grained control over how customers can personalize their orders.
Sorting for Clarity
In the world of sports and entertainment, clarity is key. Canopy 2.0 allows you to sort Modifier Groups and Modifiers at the global level, ensuring that your menu remains organized and user-friendly. This makes it easier for both managers and customers to navigate the available customization options.
In this support article, we will dive deeper into Modifiers and Modifier Groups, exploring how to create, manage, and optimize these features within Canopy 2.0. By the end, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and tools to take full advantage of these powerful customization features and provide a top-notch experience for your fans.

Final Notes and Restrictions
- Modifier Groups cannot be added to Modifiers (known as "nested" modifiers).
- Ex: The "No Tomato" or "Add Cheese" items should not have a Modifier Group selected.
- Modifiers are defined in the Items list with a blue "M" icon.
- Quantity selectors are only visible on Mobile Ordering and are unavailable on POS or Kiosk devices.
- Combos are unsupported, as Modifiers will not display as single à la carte items on the POS, Kiosk, or Mobile Ordering.
Basic Troubleshooting
- Modifiers are not appearing in the Modifier Group on POS, Kiosk, or Mobile ordering.
- Be sure that your Modifiers are added to the menus in which you want to offer them.
- Modifiers cannot have a Display Category added to them.
- Double check the availability of the Modifiers
- Modifiers are appearing as individual items instead of within the Modifier Group
- This normally means that a Display Category is assigned to the Modifier. Remove the Display Category and then test again.
- The Modifier Group is not appearing on the item on POS, Kiosk, or Mobile ordering.
- Navigate to the base item in Canopy 2.0 and check that the Modifier Group has been added.
