Description: Learn how to apply the correct Shift4 Merchant IDs (MIDs) to Revenue Centers and Menus in Canopy 2.0 to ensure successful payment processing and menu functionality.
Important: If your venue uses FreedomPay for any POS or Kiosk menus, you must continue using Canopy 1.0. Do not attempt to apply Merchants in Canopy 2.0 until your venue fully migrates to Shift4 processing.
Understand Merchant Requirements
Before configuring payment settings, ensure all Merchant IDs meet the following conditions:
Revenue Center Merchants must be card-not-present Shift4 MIDs.
Warning: If set to card-present, Mobile Wallet payments (Rich Checkout and QR Pay) and Mobile Ordering Menus will fail.POS and Kiosk Menu Merchants must be card-present Shift4 MIDs.
Warning: Refunds, tabs, batch capture, and LTM API state adjustments will fail if this is not set correctly.All Shift4 MIDs must be GTV-enabled.
Warning: Mobile Wallet payments will fail if credit cards are vaulted to non-GTV-enabled MIDs. GTV enablement is not retroactive—Engineering must unvault all cards and users must re-add them to a new GTV-enabled MID.
Apply a Card-Not-Present Merchant to a Revenue Center
Go to Canopy 2.0 > Menus > Revenue Centers.
Create or edit a Revenue Center.
In the Revenue Center Merchant section, select a Card Not Present or Mobile Merchant from the dropdown.
Select Save.
A Revenue Center Merchant is required only if a Mobile Menu is attached. If no mobile menu exists, no Merchant is needed.
Apply a Card-Present Merchant to a POS or Kiosk Menu
In the Revenue Center view, select the pencil icon next to the POS or Kiosk Menu to edit.
In the Menu Shift4 Merchant section, select a Card Present or POS Merchant from the dropdown.
Select Save, then Save again in the Revenue Center.
View Merchant Assignments
To see which Revenue Centers and Menus are assigned to a specific Merchant:
Go to Canopy 2.0 > Settings > Merchants.
Select a Merchant.
Expand the Assigned Revenue Centers and Assigned Menus to view the associated items.
Resolve Missing Merchant Alerts
If a Revenue Center or Menu is not properly configured, a red alert icon labeled Missing Merchant will appear when you hover over the item.
Go to Canopy 2.0 > Menus > Revenue Centers.
Look for red alert icons indicating incomplete payment configurations.
