Description: Learn to configure tip options for guests in Shift4 Venue, including venue-level and revenue center-level settings, tip option limits, default selections, and display sequence.

Access Tip Settings

Tip options are configurable in two locations within Shift4 Venue:

  • Settings > Venue Settings — Select Configure to open the configuration drawer and manage venue-level tip settings.
  • Menus > Revenue Centers — When Enable Tips is enabled, the tip configurations below are displayed.

Important: Editing venue-level tip settings overwrites any tip configurations defined at the revenue center level.

Top-Level Configurations

The following settings apply to all tip options and are available at both the venue level and the revenue center level.

  • Include Charges & Fees — When enabled, tips are calculated based on the total amount, including service charges and delivery fees.
  • Include Promotions — When enabled, tips are calculated based on the total amount after promotions are applied.
  • Enable Custom Tip Option — When enabled, guests can enter a custom tip amount. This replaces Tip Option 5.

Tip Options

A minimum of two and a maximum of five tip options may be configured. The options are as follows:

  • Tip Option 1 — "No Tip" is always enabled and counts toward the minimum and maximum option limits.
  • Tip Options 2–4 — Add or remove custom options up to the allowed maximum.

Note: Enter a whole number between 1 and 100 to enable a tip option.

  • Tip Option 5
    • When Enable Custom Tip Option is enabled, this option is replaced with "Other."
    • When Enable Custom Tip Option is disabled, a custom percentage may be entered.

Set Default Tip Option

This setting defines the tip option pre-selected for the guest. The "No Tip" and "Other" options cannot be set as the default.

Setting this to None prevents any tip option from being pre-selected on Shift4 Dine, Kiosk, and Mobile Ordering.

Additional Notes

No Tip Default Alternative

To configure "No Tip" as the effective default tip selection, use the following combination of settings:

  1. Set Default Tip Option to None.
  2. Set Venue Settings > Confirm Suggested Tip Percentage to On.

This configuration prompts the guest to confirm that no tip was deliberately selected. If confirmed, no tip is added to the order. If not confirmed, the guest can make a new tip selection.

Sequence

Tip options are always displayed in the following fixed sequence on Shift4 Dine, Kiosk, and Mobile Ordering:

  1. "No Tip" (always first)
  2. Tip Option 2
  3. Tip Option 3
  4. Tip Option 4
  5. Tip Option 5 or "Other" (always last)

Note: The Customer-Facing Display presents tip options differently and may not reflect the sequence above.

Legacy Tip Configurations

Tip configurations set up before the launch of these settings remain unchanged until modified in Shift4 Venue.
