Unbox and Charge Devices
- Plug in each device with the supplied charger.
- Wait 15–20 minutes if a device does not power on immediately.
- Inspect for visible physical issues during unboxing.
Check A930 Hardware
- Remove back cover to verify battery and SIM card are securely connected.
- Check SIM card for damage and confirm it’s locked in place.
- Inspect printer paper cover and rollers. Ensure paper feeds correctly.
- Test all buttons: Power, Volume, Home, Back, Task.
Note: Run a receipt print or reprint to test printer functionality.
Verify A930 Functions

Check Cellular:
- Open Settings → check SIM card status.
- Enable cellular data if prompted.

Check WiFi:
- Open Settings → WLAN → Connect to network.

BroadPOS Setup:
- Open BroadPOS and agree to Terms and Conditions.
- Run test transaction: Sale → enter $0.01 → Confirm → pay with card.
- Void transaction: Func → History → enter date password (MMDDYYYY) → select and void.
- Verify Shift4 Venue app is installed and registered.
Check E700 and Q20L Hardware
- Remove rubber foot to access battery connector. Confirm it’s secure.
- Test Power and Volume buttons.
- Open receipt paper lid and verify paper is seated correctly.
- Test print function with a transaction or test print.
Note: No physical checks are needed on Q20L.
Verify E700 and Q20L Functions

USB Tethering:
- E700 → Settings → More → Tethering & Portable Hotspot → Enable USB Tethering.

Ethernet Connection:
- Confirm cable is plugged into LAN port.
- Look for green (solid) and yellow (flashing) lights.
- Open Settings → Ethernet → Enable if off.

WiFi Alternative:
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi → connect to network.

Run Test Transaction:
- Open Shift4 Venue app.
- Ring up test or low-cost item.
- Complete transaction on Q20L.
Fix Display Issues:
Settings → Display → Display Size → set to smallest if “Done” button is not visible.
Troubleshoot Common Issues
Network Won’t Connect
- Reboot device.
- A930: Check Cellular or WLAN settings.
- E700: Check Ethernet or Wi-Fi settings, test cable, reboot.
Red Battery Icon
- Reconnect battery. Charge for 20 minutes. Swap battery if needed.
PED Tamper Error
- Device must be returned to Shift4.
Constant Rebooting
- Check battery connector.
- Attempt firmware update via PAXStore.
Declining Transactions
- Check for P2PE or AuthToken errors.
- Regenerate and push new token if authorized, or contact Shift4 Support.
SIGSEGV Error (Q20L)
- Select Cancel to reboot.
Physical Damage
- Log damage and serial number. Return non-usable devices.
