Manage Sales Events in Canopy 2.0

Sports and entertainment venues often host a wide array of events from high-energy playoff games, to captivating concerts, and family-friendly kids' shows. This article details Sales Events within venues, highlighting the essential components and the Sales Event Types that can be leveraged for additional revenue.

What Are Sales Events?

Sales events are designed to group orders with the aim of running sales reports more efficiently. These events are characterized by several key attributes:

  • Internal Name: An internal reference identifier that allows for easier analytic tracking, such as "240426_bucks_raptors".
    • Format Example: 
      • YYMMDD_team1_team2
        YYMMDD_artist
  • Display Name: A descriptive title that often includes the date and the teams or performers involved, such as "Milwaukee Bucks vs Toronto Raptors."
    • Format Example: 
      • Team 1 vs Team 2
        Artist/Show Name
  • Start Date/Time: Generally, this is when doors open and sales begin for the venue. 
  • Sales Event Type: A classification that reflects the nature of the event, such as "Playoff Game," "Kids Show," or "Concert". These are also considered Price Levels for dynamically changing the price of items for an event.
  • Locked/Unlocked: A status indicator for preorders. Locked events do not allow additional preorders to be placed by customers. Unlocked events, on the other hand, continue to allow orders to be submitted. 

Sales Event Behaviors

Sales Events operate on the principle of rolling events; once an event begins, it captures all related sales activities until the next Sales Event start time. Because of the rolling nature of Sales Events, multiple unique events within the same venue occurring at the same time cannot be separated into multiple Sales Events. One Sales Event can be active at a given point within the same venue.

Sales Event Types

The diversity of events hosted by sports and entertainment venues requires a versatile approach to sales events, and at times, pricing. Sales Event Types provide a great opportunity to dynamically adjust pricing for each item offered in the venue. Some common Sales Event Types include Playoff Games, Concerts, and Kids Shows. Sales Event Types can be managed by navigating to Menus > Price Levels and will activate a new price field on each Global Item.

Create a Sales Event

  1. Navigate to Canopy 2.0 > Menus > Sales Events.
  2. Select the blue [ + ] button located in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Enter the Internal Name, Display Name, Event Type (if applicable), and the Start Date/Time.
    • [Optional] If your venue has any mobile preorder menus available, you can either allow preorders by keeping the Lock Event flag in the off position, or you can restrict preorders by enabling the flag to the on position.

Note: The Price Level/Event Type will NOT automatically enable when the Sales Event Start Date/Time occurs and must be manually enabled/disabled in Menus > Price Levels.

Run Reports Using Sales Events and Types

DataNow offers a Sales Event and Sales Event Type filters on several dashboards. These filters are dependent on the date/time filter at the very top of the filter pane. To see Sales Events/Types populate from previous months or years, you must adjust the date/time filter.

 

Note: Sales Events are NOT retroactive and will only populate sales data after creating the first Sales Event in your venue.
