Converting Pax E700 Devices from Appetize to VenueNext

Description: Learn how to convert Pax E700 devices from Appetize to VenueNext. 

 

Note: The Pax E700 consists of two devices. E700 refers to the terminal touchscreen device where the point of sale software runs and the Q20 is the payment device (with small screen) located on the back of the device. This article will include operations on both devices. The specific device will be called out when necessary in the steps below.

 

  1. Uninstall existing Appetize Software.
    • Log into the Pax store and select the E700 device from the list of available terminals.
    • Make sure the target device is online.
    • Select App & Firmware to view the list of applications currently installed on the device.


    • Uninstall Appetize Software from the device.
      • Delete the Activate Enterprise application by clicking on the yellow trash can to the right of the application listing. After clicking on the trash can, the application will be removed from the device.


  2. Key Push.
    • Log into the Pax store and select the Q20 device from the list of available terminals.
    • Make sure the target device is online.
    • Select Push Task.


    • Select RKI.


    • Select Push RKI.


    • Select the hamburger menu to display the available Injection Key.


    • Select the Key: Appetize_Shift4_TSYS_Pin_Slot1_Data_Slot and select OK.


    • On the following screen, verify the correct key is select and select OK.
    • Select Activate in the bottom right corner to begin the key push.

  3. Key Download.
    • Locate and open the PDM application on the home screen of the E700 device.


    • Select PDM Info.


    • Select General Settings.


    • Enter the password: 9876.


    • Verify the following three settings - update as necessary:
      • Key Download Mode: Remote.
      • RKI Server IP: rki.pax.us.
      • RKI Server Port: 33519.
      • When finished, tap on the back arrow in the upper left.


    • Select Key Download.


    • As the keys are downloaded, all seven items should appear with a green check mark. If there are any failures, verify network connectivity, verify the three settings above, and attempt again. If additional failures occur, please reach out to VenueNext support for next steps.


    • When the download has successfully completed, close the PDM application. Verification of the key download will be done in the following section on the Q20 device.

  4. Verify Key Download.
    • Tap the four corners of the Q20 in clockwise order starting from the upper left corner.


    • Select System Settings.


    • Select Keys Injection.


    • If prompted, enter the password. It will either be the date in full MMDDYYY, or 5594225.


    • Select US Key Injection.


    • Select Status.


    • Verify that the keys match the image below. If they do not, return to the steps above to push the new keys and download the keys to the device.


  5. Push Template.
    • Log into the Pax store and select the Q20 device from the list of available terminals.
    • Make sure the target device is online.
    • Select Push Task.


    • Select App.

    • Select Push App.

    • Select Push Template (step 1 of images below)
    • Select the checkbox that matches the type of device you are setting up (step 2 of image below).
    • Select OK (step 3 of image below).


    • On the Edit Parameter screen, select Shift4.


    • Enter the Access Token information exactly as provided by your Shift4 representative. You may copy and paste the token from another document. Do not change any other parameters unless requested to do so by a Shift4 representative. Changing other parameters may cause processing errors.


    • On the following screen, select Activate on the bottom right to begin the template push to the Q20.

  6. Processing Template Download.
    • Tap the four corners of the Q20 in clockwise order starting from the upper left corner.


    • If prompted, enter the password. It will either be the date in full MMDDYYY, or 5594225.


    • Select System Settings.


    • Select Database.


    • Select Clear Database.


    • Use the Circular return arrow at the bottom left of the screen to return to the System Options menu. Move to the next page by selecting the right arrow as highlighted in the picture below.


    • Select App Management.


    • Select App Update to begin the template load. After loading, the Q20 will reboot.


  7. Push VenueNext Application.
    • Log into the Pax store and select the E700 device from the list of available terminals.
    • Make sure the target device is online.
    • Select Push Task.


    • Select App.


    • Select Push App.


    • Select App (step 1 of image below).
    • Select the checkbox that matches the VenueNext version you'll be installing. You should only have one version available. In the instance that there are multiple versions, a Shift4 representative will let you know which version to install (step 2 of image below).
    • Select OK (step 3 of image below).


    • Make sure that the push immediately selector is set to YES and select Activate. This will begin the software push to the device.


    • After the VenueNext app is pushed to the device, it will appear on the desktop or under the applications list.


  8. Register the VenueNext Application to the venue
    The Organization and Venue information will be provided to you by a Shift4 representative. Please pay close attention to this part of the application configuration and it will determine what location you have menu access to on the device.

    • Open the VenueNext application on the E700 device and scan the QR code with a cell phone camera to open the Canopy website.


    • Enter the Canopy credentials to access the system.


    • Select the Organization and then the Venue from the drop down menu.
         

    • After making the selections, select Register on the screen to register the device to the instance of VenueNext. It may take 2-3 minutes for the device to register after completing these steps. Once registered, the VenueNext application will open and show the available configurations for that venue.
